Jembi Health Systems

The Company

Jembi Health Systems is a Non Profit Organisation that develops health solutions across Africa. Their focus is on the development of eHealth and health information systems. They work closely with worldwide partners, donors, funders and grants to carry out their vision, providing better care for the people living in low resource countries.

The Challenge

Jembi has many projects on the go and each could have multiple departments involved. They needed a system that illustrates the working relationship of each department involved where any given project is concerned. They required flexible cross linking and cross referencing functionality that is easy to set up in the backend and is displayed clearly on the frontend, so that the user can establish the relationships involved in every project. The site itself needed to be responsive and navigable no matter what device is used to view the content.

The Solution

Eight new custom post types were added to WordPress in addition to posts and pages that come standard in the CMS. The new custom post types relate to all the stakeholders in a given project, which is the main post type to which all other post types relate.

Post types were not coded, but generated with our FPS plugin. For every post type that you define it lets you add unique custom fields for the post type too. It has the impressive ability to make a post type reference an entry from another post type via custom fields.

The site was built and customised using Canvas by WooThemes. We cleverly hijacked some features from the Portfolio section that comes with the theme. Look carefully at the landing page for some of the custom post types and notice the tag based pagination that displays more content without reloading the page.

The Result

Our FPS plugin connects all the various departments together in a way that is dynamic and illustrates the cohesive whole of the site and all its sections. With each post type, every custom field captures the text content and displays it in a designed layout that is consistent and impossible to break due to user error. There is no need for the admin to create complex layouts using shortcodes or HTML. Instead they just fill out the form, which removes the guesswork and makes updating content more efficient and precise.
